Tides of Fate
The Tides of Fate series was a project where I had to select three books with similar themes and illustrate their covers in a way that made them appear as a cohesive set. I chose Life of Pi, The Old Man and the Sea, and Moby-Dick because all three novels center on the relationship between humans and the sea, while also exploring themes of survival, nature, and the intense connection between man and animal. In each story, the protagonist faces physical and existential challenges brought on by the ocean, with animals playing a symbolic and central role in their journey.
To reflect the thematic unity of the stories, I decided to create paper cut-out style illustrations, which added a handcrafted, layered feel to the covers. I focused on the key animals in each book: the tiger from Life of Pi, the marlin from The Old Man and the Sea, and the whale from Moby-Dick, capturing their significance in the characters’ struggles and the overarching themes of fate and endurance.
