Branding
RAMP RATS
RAMP RATS is a fictional company I created for my final branding project in college. I’ve designed three different lockups, social media mockups, a pattern, a color palette, and selected two typefaces.
I envisioned something gritty, punk, and edgy for the brand. My inspiration came from the urban skating scene in Fresno, CA, and a video game from my childhood, Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland. The color palette for RAMP RATS was actually derived from the video game case.
I chose handwritten type to reflect the ‘from-the-ground-up’ nature of the business, which was started by a young group of skaters. The rough edges of the type evoke spray paint and the sharp, jagged style is reminiscent of carvings in a desk.
The rat mascot embodies a dude who was raised in the streets. He’s a low-life punk, and he’s just having a good time pissing people off.
